Ramboll provided MEP, acoustics and fire design services for the complex and state of the art facility. We also designed the specialist ventilation, compressed air, lighting and vacuum systems which support the manufacturing processes employed within the factory.

Key features of the Ramboll design include the recovery of free heat from the hot manufacturing processes to reduce heating & cooling loads for the offices and other ancillary spaces, ultra-low energy systems for the offices, and a very high degree of air sealing. As such, Ramboll’s highly cost-effective design delivers the environment within the factory required for the manufacture of the highest quality of product, whilst achieving a stringent target for carbon emissions reduction and energy conservation. The project is a key part of the government strategy to keep the UK the global number one country for offshore wind.

The factory forms the centrepiece of Green Port Hull, which produced its first 75m blade in November 2016. It was the first of hundreds to be manufactured in Hull every year for Siemens’ industry-leading 7MW and next-generation 8MW turbines. The first turbine will be among others supplied to DONG Energy, which was destined for the Race Bank wind farm off the Norfolk and Lincolnshire coast.
