Ramboll supported IGPDecaux, a leading outdoor advertising company, to develop its sustainability strategy for 2019-2021.

From footprint to handprint

The goal was to reduce the company’s footprint: its negative impacts on society and environment, and to enhance its handprint: its positive impacts on society and the environment.

The three-year sustainability strategy developed by Ramboll started by defining and summarising the sustainability-led projects already implemented by IGPDecaux, to bring them together as a whole and bring out their synergies. We then proposed several additional actions to be included in the strategy.

Sustainability categories

The projects within the strategy were divided into categories that, together, define a holistic way to view sustainability:

Energy consumption reduction

Actions to reduce and efficiently manage the company’s energy demand, including green vehicle fleet, facilities green energy supply and ISO50001 certification.

Environmental impact reduction

Actions to reduce environmental impacts including sustainable waste management, plastic reduction actions within offices and in production cycles and raw materials reduction.

Health & safety

Actions to increase the health and safety of employees including zero accidents policy, monitoring actions, top quality staff induction and training courses.

Social policy

Actions to enforce and strengthen the company’s social policy.

Purchasing policy

Actions to strengthen sustainable purchasing via green procurement strategies and to increase the buyers’ commitment to sustainability.

Employee commitment

Actions to increase employees’ commitment to sustainability, both socially and environmentally.

Clear communication is key

The sustainability strategy was delivered by Ramboll in a clear and straightforward way to be disseminated throughout all company’s levels and to all internal stakeholders. The ultimate vision adopted by the strategy is to enhance the handprint: its positive impacts on the environment and on stakeholders, while reducing the footprint.
