DEFRA 25 Year Plan
Ramboll has been retained to work alongside the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) to review the government’s 25 Year Environment Plan. The project sees members of Ramboll’s UK Environment & Health business team up with the EIC, the trade association for the environmental technology and services sector.

We will prepare a report on the extent to which new innovation will be needed to deliver the government’s flagship Environment plan.
About the Environment plan
In January 2018, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published its 25 Year Plan to Improve the Environment, which sets out goals for improving the environment and protecting plants, trees and wildlife species. You can download the report in full from the government’s publications page.
Be part of the review
As well as conducting desk-based research, the team will collect the views of the environmental sector through a combination of an online survey and focus groups on particular topics.
Join our focus group
Our first focus group will be held in Birmingham on 2nd July. Discussions will focus on assessing the core areas of the plan and the extent to which technology and environmental services are available and ready to be deployed to deliver its goals in a cost-effective manner. The session is an opportunity to help to shape policy and research and development/innovation priorities in these environmental domains.
If you would like to participate, please contact Emma as soon as possible, and feel free to pass on details of the event to colleagues/organisations who may be interested.
Chris Fry, Director of Infrastructure and Regeneration at Ramboll said:
“It is great to be supporting EIC and its member organisations on this timely and important study. With the emergence of new technologies, digitally-enabled services and disruptive business models, we are keen to hear from a wide range of people with an interest in the environmental innovation landscape.”
Commenting on the work, EIC Executive Director Matthew Farrow added:
“The 25 Year Plan sets out a bold trajectory for the environment over a generation, with ambitious goals across water, air quality, soil and carbon and resources. Innovation by the UK’s environmental sector will be a key part of ensuring the Plan can be delivered in a cost-effective manner. We are delighted to be working with Ramboll to conduct an ‘innovation audit’ of the plan, which will help identify which are the environmental challenges where the innovation and enterprise the environmental sector has are most needed.”
