Four decades of experience with offshore platforms

Ramboll has substantial global experience with offshore platforms. Since the 1970’s, we have been involved in major development projects and modifications covering topsides, jackets, bridges and modules. With our harsh environments expertise in High Pressure/High Temperature fields, corrosion and winterisation of equipment for arctic areas, we are ready to venture with our clients to unexplored areas.

Our multidisciplinary service portfolio for offshore platforms covers the entire project life cycle from early phase studies and detailed design to modifications, lifetime extension projects, revamps, tie-ins, maintenance, process improvements and offshore decommissioning.

Our services within offshore platforms cover:

Early phase studies and detailed design for greenfield projects

By performing comprehensive early phase studies, our specialists develop feasible offshore platform concepts, including cost-effective platforms for marginal fields and offshore substations for wind farms.

We can provide precision weight and cost estimations for all types of platform projects, enabling our clients to make informed investment decisions.

Lifetime extension and modifications expertise

Ramboll carries out a wide variety of modification projects ranging from partial to complete revamps. We carry out system upgrades and debottlenecking projects to optimise production on mature fields. Our advanced analysis software enables us to calculate exact fatigue lives that can be used to significantly extend a platform’s lifetime. Our expertise also covers:

  • Weight monitoring
  • 3D scanning and surveys
  • Maintenance planning

Offshore structures are billion dollar investments. With True Digital Twins, operation and maintenance costs can be reduced and decisions on whether to extend their lifetime can be based on a genuine understanding of the structures. This is intelligent asset management. Watch video:

Minding safety, the environment and regulatory requirements

Risk and safety form an integrated part of our consultancy services. We take a proactive and multidisciplinary approach to risk analyses and safety screenings to ensure that all safety regulations and requirements are met.

To ensure timely project execution, we identify legislative and environmental requirements and devise comprehensive environmental programmes to secure approvals and permits.

We have recently completed one of our most extensive projects to date for Maersk Oil Qatar on the offshore field development project called Al Shaheen.

Amazing Al Shaheen

Al Shaheen is a production oil and gas field off the North East coast of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf. The oil field lies over the North Gas Field; the largest gas field in the world. Al Shaheen has been developed by Maersk Oil in what constitutes one of the largest and most complex offshore oil and gas projects undertaken in the world today.

The development of the Kuvykin field

Ramboll will contribute to the development of the Kuvykin field in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea with pre-FEED studies for a drilling complex and topside living quarters designed for operation in arctic conditions.

Culzean field

Three jacket designs for the Culzean ultra-HP/HT field

The Culzean field was discovered in 2008 and is one of the largest fields in the British North Sea. Ramboll is providing detailed design of three jacket structures for the field, which has the potential to meet around 5 per cent of the UK’s gas demand in 2020/21.

The South Arne platform

Smooth and cost-effective EPC set-up in the North Sea

In the summer of 2014 a joint venture between Ramboll Oil & Gas and Semco Maritime were rewarded an EPC contract for the provision of onshore and offshore services to Hess Denmark’s platforms in the Danish North Sea.

Conceptual study for wellhead platform in the Snorre field

The Snorre field in the Norwegian North Sea is to be developed further through the addition of a wellhead platform, and Ramboll was appointed to provide conceptual recommendations for the facility.

Abkatun D compressor module

Eliminating gas flaring on offshore platform Abkatun D

Changes in Mexican environmental regulations required the Mexican petroleum company, PEMEX, to reduce and eventually eliminate gas flaring on its offshore platforms. In order to comply with this requirement, additional compression capacity was needed on Abkatun D.
