Ramboll’s passionate building services team is dedicated to creating sustainable built environments where people and communities thrive. Our experience of integrating passive environmental control features helps to minimise energy demand. We set and meet stringent targets for energy use and CO2 emissions and increasingly outperform current UK standards in these fields. Our teams include CIBSE-registered Low Carbon Consultants.

Advanced MEP expertise

Our Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Engineering specialists draw on the most qualified multidisciplinary expertise from across Ramboll’s global network to deliver a complete and integrated service. This approach enables us to overcome highly complex technical challenges and provide clients with innovative, sustainable and best practice solutions.

Our engineers strive to add value throughout the project life cycle from preliminary studies, determination of user requirements and design conditions, to handover of the completed building.  Using the latest digital design software and methods we offer:
  • Advisory services
  • Design management
  • Planning, analyses and programming
  • Integration
  • Project administration and project management
  • Technical construction management
  • Validation and verification
  • Status control
  • Facility management
  • Soft landings, including Government soft landings (GSL)
  • Post occupancy evaluation
  • Technical due diligence
  • Field studies

Mechanical Engineering

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC, or climate control) and climate technology is so critical to the success of a building. We work closely with our building physics team to influence the shape and form of the building. Getting this right at the initial phase of a project can help reduce energy consumption, whilst ensuring that the indoor climate creates an excellent internal environment. Ramboll’s skills and design approach helps to reduce sickness and improve productivity.

In addition to the traditional mechanical services disciplines, we are skilled in special areas such as indoor climate, environmental design, integrated building design, building physics, simulations, BMS/building automation and mechanical refrigeration.

Ramboll Mechanical services cover:

  • Heating systems
  • Ventilation systems
  • Air conditioning
  • Exterior HVAC systems
  • Gas and air pressure
  • Sanitary systems
  • Water systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • Smoke control systems
  • Controls
  • Automation

Electrical engineering

We are increasingly dependent on well-functioning electrical, IT and telecom systems. Malfunctions can have serious safety and economic consequences. Such systems must be designed to avoid disruptions and minimise risk.

Ramboll’s electrical engineers assess individual project requirements and design tailored technical solutions to optimise operational reliability and cost effectiveness. Whether it be a large regional hospital or a data centre, we have the skills and expertise to ensure that resilient electrical services are provided for the successful operation of a building.

We have expertise in the following electrical systems:

  • High voltage
  • Low voltage
  • Critical systems
  • Emergency power
  • Generator
  • Building battery
  • Earthing and lightning protection
  • Fire Detection
  • Security and access control
  • IT and communication networks
  • Vertical transports
  • Process systems such as MCC switchgears, automation cabinets and PLC systems

We also lead the field in single point of failure (SPOF) analysis and have strong expertise in the design of HV systems up to 33kV. We undertake numerous commissions for the UK’s Defence Estates in the UK, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. We have also worked for National Grid and the Kenyan government.

New North Zealand Hospital

In March 2014, and following a 12 month intensive international design competition, the Architectural consortium of Herzog & de Meuron/Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter was awarded the contract to design the New North Zealand Hospital in Hillerød, Denmark, with Ramboll named as the engineering services consultant for the project.

emonika

Emonika mixed use development

A central district of Slovenia's capital city is to be completely transformed by an ambitious mixed use development that incorporates commercial, residential, retail, hotel, sports and leisure facilities for day and night. Ramboll's engineers and consultants have provided structural, building services, fire and transport engineering for the concept design.

Siemens Green Port Hull

Siemens Green Port Hull is providing a huge boost to the UK’s offshore wind industry and the Humber region. The site was a much anticipated £160 million investment into wind turbine production and installation facilities in Yorkshire.

Ashmount School, Crouch Hill

Crouch Hill Park

Proposals at Crouch Hill Park involved the relocation of Ashmount Primary School, Bowler’s Nursery and the renovation of the community CAPE building. The brief is challenging as the site is Metropolitan Open Land. Sustainability, energy and landscaping have all been integral to design development. Designs are based on a ‘tree house’ concept to connect with the surrounding environment.

Ferrari World

Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi is the World’s only Ferrari theme park. Sixty of our engineers worked on the four-year project and were involved in every aspect of the park's unique design from concept to completion.

Vestas Blade Technology Centre, Isle of Wight

Vestas Blade Technology Centre

The world leader in the offshore wind industry, Vestas was looking to create an R&D facility to prototype and test its new wind turbine design. With 80m long blades, the V164 turbine is a huge leap in wind technology. Each turbine is set to generate...
