Mechanical Engineering

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC, or climate control) and climate technology is so critical to the success of a building. We work closely with our building physics team to influence the shape and form of the building. Getting this right at the initial phase of a project can help reduce energy consumption, whilst ensuring that the indoor climate creates an excellent internal environment. Ramboll’s skills and design approach helps to reduce sickness and improve productivity. 

In addition to the traditional mechanical services disciplines, we are skilled in special areas such as indoor climate, environmental design, integrated building design, building physics, simulations, BMS/building automation and mechanical refrigeration.

Electrical engineering 

We are increasingly dependent on well-functioning electrical, IT and telecom systems. Malfunctions can have serious safety and economic consequences. Such systems must be designed to avoid disruptions and minimise risk. 

Ramboll’s electrical engineers assess individual project requirements and design tailored technical solutions to optimise operational reliability and cost effectiveness. Whether it be a large regional hospital or a data centre, we have the skills and expertise to ensure that resilient electrical services are provided for the successful operation of a building.

Mary Rose Museum

Famously raised from the sea bed before a worldwide television audience of 60 million in 1982, the Tudor warship Mary Rose has been undergoing an heroic conservation process in a temporary museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

New Northzealand Hospital

The one of a kind new Northzealand hospital in Hillerød, Denmark seeks to reinvent hospital designs for the future. Following a 12-month intensive international design competition, the Architectural consortium of Herzog & de Meuron/Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter was awarded the contract, with Ramboll named as the engineering consultant, providing a full range of engineering services.

British Antarctic Survey

Appointed by NERC as Technical Advisors to BAS (British Antarctic Survey), Ramboll is providing specialist engineering and consultancy services for seven years. Delivering a host of projects within the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP), BAS and its Technical Advisors (including NORR Architects and Turner & Townsend) are preparing for one of the world’s most advanced Polar research ships - the RRS Sir David Attenborough.

Siemens Green Port Hull

Siemens Green Port Hull is providing a huge boost to the UK’s offshore wind industry and the Humber region. The site was a much anticipated £160 million investment into wind turbine production and installation facilities in Yorkshire.

Ashmount School, Crouch Hill

Crouch Hill Park

Proposals at Crouch Hill Park involved the relocation of Ashmount Primary School, Bowler’s Nursery and the renovation of the community CAPE building. The brief is challenging as the site is Metropolitan Open Land. Sustainability, energy and landscaping have all been integral to design development. Designs are based on a ‘tree house’ concept to connect with the surrounding environment.

Ferrari World, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Ferrari World

Award winning development covering  25 sq km  contains a Formula 1 track, hotels and a retail centre.  Ramboll developed a flexible approach to engineering so we could meet the programme challenges. Our early involvement with the theme park focused on the schematic design of its 90,000 sqm roof.
