DLR three car enhancement

Docklands Light Railway has expanded its network to carry three car trains.

Feasibility study of the Helsinki Central Railway Station

Ramboll's unique use of indicator-derived evaluation tools confirmed the feasibility of using innovative techniques to identify functional solutions to existing operational and scheduling challenges of Finland’s busiest and most important railway yard.

Docklands Light Railway upgrade and expansion works

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in London's East End underwent major works to upgrade and expand the network, enabling it to carry three-car (six coach) trains. Working in conjunction with Arup, we provided rail engineering services for the detailed design of stations and supporting structures. Taylor Woodrow was awarded the design & build contract for this part of the project, officially known as Provision of Three Car Enhancement Works. At project tender stage, we provided full design support including the development of a number of innovative procedures for minimising the strengthening of structures. These included undertaking strain gauging and laboratory testing of a weld improvement technique. The DLR is an extensive automated network, running from Stratford ...

Langdon Park Station, Docklands Light Railway

A new three-car DLR station built on-line around the existing Stratford line between All Saints and Devon's Road station, Langdon Park is central to regeneration plans for the area and was substantially funded by regional development monies. Ramboll acted as lead consultant for Costain, who carried out the project under a design & build contract.

London Underground deep tube programme, Piccadilly Line surveys

Ramboll specialists were commissioned to undertake detailed laser scanning surveys of 52 of the 53 stations on the Piccadilly Line, one of London Underground’s major arteries.

York Engineers’ Triangle Rail Operating and Training Centre

York Engineers' Triangle is the UK's largest rail operating centre and was built above the well-preserved foundations of three roundhouse and a Victorian engine shed. Ramboll archaeologists and structural engineers preserved 95% of the archaeological remains.

Paddington Crossrail Station

A new station is nearing completion at Paddington, west London, serving the Elizabeth Line (formerly known as Crossrail). Ramboll engineers have played an integral part in the delivery of the new station and the surrounding area

Custom House Station

Custom House Station is one of the 10 new stations in London for the Elizabeth Line. It is the only Crossrail above-ground station, and is on a tightly constrained site. The project involved a new station, predominantly in pre-cast concrete elements. Ramboll made the design more buildable and project managed the contractor's design team overseeing 12 separate design disciplines.
