Richmond station features Transport for London (TfL) District line and Overground trains alongside each other on adjacent platforms. This DEG Signal Ltd project assessed options for the fitment of alternative train protection systems at the station. This will offer TfL full operational flexibility for their Overground fleet across London's suburban rail network.

Alternative train protection systems

The overall aim of the project was to assess alternative options for train protection systems to the existing trainstop/tripcock system on the Richmond Branch. This involved developing GRIP2, GRIP3 and GRIP4 scheme documentation for Signalling, ETE and E&P assets for Transport for London.

In the initial phase of work a feasibility report was prepared, which informed the site survey requirements. Following surveys, the signalling scheme plan and associated documentation and ETE Form A were developed.
