Falkirk Council is justifiably proud of its achievements in promoting sustainable development. Measures to minimize environmental impact were therefore central to our services engineering design for two new primary schools in the area. A traditional procurement process further supported our client's emphasis on strategic initial investment in systems that result in substantial savings over the life of the buildings.
We investigated a range of sustainable alternatives to supplied utilities, including grey water recycling, roof-top photovoltaics, small-scale wind turbines and ground source heat pumps. Our established expertise in thermal modelling helped to refine the natural ventilation strategy and passive temperature control measures throughout each two-storey development. An underfloor heating system was chosen as ideal for the building's users.
Working to the latest issued standards, we aimed to achieve a BREEAM For Schools 2005 rating of Excellent.
