Situated in the Olympic Park site, as part of the London 2012 games legacy, Transport for London’s (TfL) headquarters at International Quarter London (Plot S6) provides 265,000 sq ft of modern, dynamic facilities for around 3,000 TfL staff. Ramboll provided multidisciplinary services following their appointment by Lendlease and London & Continental Railways (LCR).
The new headquarters marks one of the first of the developments in the new masterplan and is a key benchmark in which other commercial developments are to be designed and built on the park, with Ramboll as a key partner in the masterplanning team alongside world-class architects, Rogers Stirk Harbours + Partners. Located between the Olympic Athletes Village and Europe’s largest shopping centre, Westfield Stratford, International Quarter London will be transformed into a mixed-use site boasting some of the most prestigious headquarters and commercial premises, retail, residences, childcare and community facilities.
The Transport for London’s new major base delivers attractive, modern and flexible working spaces with a lean and efficient building that focuses on staff health and well-being at its core. The striking external staircase design enables large open plan floor plates, created using post-tensioned slabs and high strength concrete columns, reducing their column diameter, providing future tenants TfL maximum flexibility for interior layouts that enable extensive natural daylight.
The programme was built to Level 2 BIM, adding value by speeding up construction, ensuring optimum information flow for full coordination of the structural and services requirements. Transport for London occupied the building in Autumn 2017.
