In 2010 Qatar Petroleum initiated a major life time extension programme in the Dukhan field 95 km west of the capital Doha in Qatar. Ramboll was awarded the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study for the cathodic protection and off plot power supply for more than 600 oil, gas, and water wells.
360 degrees engineering service
Ramboll delivered electrical, instrumentation and civil engineering as well as complete study and design for the cathodic protection system. The power supply had to be provided from existing overhead lines or present processes stations where possible. For more than 550 wells, alternative sustainable energy solutions, i.e. solar panels, were designed. Furthermore, Ramboll handled civil and structural engineering for equipment, routings and access roads as well as intensive site survey for all disciplines and planning of the same. The full service operation enabled Qatar Petroleum to reduce the installation expenses and extend lifetime for the immense number of wells at Dukhan field.
Impressive Dukhan field
The Dukhan field is a large oil and gas field serving some of the biggest refineries in Qatar. The wellheads are geographically spread over an impressive area of 85 km (north to south) x 20 km (east to west), and there are more than 600 wells presently active. Some of the wells are about 50 years old.
Dukhan oil field has the facilities to produce up to 335,000 barrels per day.
