Tunnel under Marselis Boulevard

Marselis Aarhus

Marselis Aarhus

The project consists of a 1.8 kilometre cut and cover tunnel, consisting of mechanical and electrical  installations, several road and railway bridges (including railway bridges at Langenæs, Åhavevej and Viby Ringgade), and all temporary structures. Ramboll also worked on the connecting roads systems, providing all road-working equipment - the relocation and widening of Åhavevej was one example of this.

The implementation of intelligent traffic system (ITS), and a technical and monitoring centre, was also included in this project. Considerations and demands involved in the service and maintenance of the structures after construction was also studied.

The customer is the municipality of Aarhus in Denmark. Rambøll Denmark was responsible for all consultancy disciplines involved in all stages of the project - from planning and designing, to the preparation of the tender.

This was a complex project with multidisciplinary technical disciplines, that required special attention to the logistic of the construction work, construction methods, and the handling of traffic during construction.

Throughout the project a 3D CAD model was used and became very valuable in the decision process.
Århus Byarkitektur and Møller & Grønborg were partners, and were responsible for the aesthetics of the structures and landscape.

The tunnel is part of an improved connection between the overall motorway system and the Port of Aarhus.
