The desire to increase their range of distribution and to meet the increasing demand were the principal reasons behind Grundfos' decision to transfer their electric motor production from Bjerringbro in Denmark to Tatabánya in Hungary. In his inauguration speech, Niels Due Jensen, Chairman of Grundfos, said he was very pleased with the fact that not a single job was lost in connection with the transfer of motor production. Ramboll was assigned as General Planner.
Grundfos is one of the world's leading pump manufacturers, who develop, produce and sell high-quality pumps and pumping systems. The advantages of placing production in Hungary were considerably lower production costs as well as the central location in the new Europe. The new location provided proximity to the rapidly growing markets in Central and Southern Europe. Moreover, the stable political and economic development, as well as easy access to highly qualified manpower, was of great importance to Grundfos.
More than 300 new jobs were generated at the new Grundfos facility in Tatabánya, contributing to growth and development in the region. A pleasant surprise to everybody involved in the project was Grundfos’ commitment to social responsibility, reflected in their genuine desire to employ disabled staff.
"We often stayed in the same hotel as the Grundfos employees from Denmark whose jobs had now been transferred to Hungary and whose task it was to train the new Hungarian employees. It was a great delight to see the enthusiasm that the Danish employees, who had been given this chance to travel and thus been recognised for their professional skills, showed in training their new colleagues whilst knowing that new opportunities had been opened for them in Denmark" says Project Manager Steen Børsting Petersen
Ramboll’s Tailor-made General Planner Concept
As General Planner, Ramboll was fully responsible to Grundfos for all performed services comprising design, project and construction management of the whole facility, including structural and civil works and mechanical and electrical installations as well as utility lines to and from the plot. All architectural works were carried out in close cooperation with the Grundfos Group Architects Office.
Ramboll has developed a General Planner concept that ensures a top quality result from A to Z, from purchase of the plot to the final handover of the completed production facility. The concept is tailor-made for industrial companies planning to build production facilities worldwide. It carefully guides the client through the planning of the building project. Ramboll takes charge of the entire process from the start of the planning until the completed building is handed over and, within the agreed time and budget, leaves the client with a modern production facility of Western European standard that also reflects our renowned Scandinavian sense of quality and good design.
Ramboll was awarded the General Planner Contract without competition. The master plan for the project allows for a tripling of the production areas on the site.
Gross floor area: 14.500 sq.m.
