Nandian Park City is located in Tianjin, one of the largest cities in China. The masterplan for this 10 km2 new city district convinced the jury to choose this plan thanks to the outstanding high-density corniche which is based on a functional water system for the entire district.
While the concept has a clear definition between city and park, the city is intrinsically structured around multifunctional blue-green spaces. For example, the "green ring" is a focus for urban activities connecting neighbourhoods, schools, playgrounds and shops, forming a continuous link between the city and the park. At the same time it is a conveyor and cleansing system for the stormwater runoff.
Tianjin is a dry and windy city subject to massive summer downpours and extreme seasonal variation. The water system is used to create urban comfort and improve water quality while managing flood events. The client was convinced by the multi-functionality and feasibility of the masterplan, which will deliver a robust urban structure.
This project was carried out by Atelier Dreiseitl, now member of the Ramboll Group.
