Michael T. Simmelsgaard replaces Thomas Rand who has decided to retire after ten successful years as Managing Director for Energy and 41 years in the company. Thomas Rand will continue in the company in a role as senior advisor for the new Managing Director as well as the Ramboll Group.

Michael T. Simmelsgaard comes from a position as head of Offshore Wind in Vattenfall, where he has been globally responsible for Vattenfall’s offshore wind activities covering market development, engineering, design, construction, operations and asset management of large-scale wind assets. In addition, he has gained broad industry experience in utilities and energy systems from senior leadership roles in Ørsted, Siemens and Danfoss.

Offshore wind is the fastest growing energy sector in the world and today Ramboll is a world leader within design of foundations for offshore wind turbines representing a market share of approximately 60 % of all offshore foundations in the world. Furthermore, Ramboll has a leading position in design of offshore substations and is working for leading offshore wind developers and contractors across the globe.

"Our ambition is to be globally recognised as the sustainable society consultant successfully guiding our clients through the green transition. Michael T. Simmelsgaard has a deep strategic insight into the change that the energy sector undergoes these years and he knows our clients’ needs from first-hand experience. This makes him the right person to lead the next step on our journey as a leading player in the energy industry,” says COO in the Ramboll Group Søren Holm Johansen.

Michael T. Simmelsgaard looks forward to taking on the challenge, saying “I find it truly inspiring to be working for a company with such a clear mission and so strong values as Ramboll. To take part in the transformation of the energy sector is a key motivation factor for me and Ramboll is one of the global leaders in energy consulting.
