ECHA’s tasks arise mainly from the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation, which affects all chemicals manufactured and marketed in the EU. ECHA evaluates the data provided by industry and assists with any steps necessary to enable the restriction or authorisation of uses.

The revised Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation allocated new tasks to ECHA in 2019. ECHA is now responsible for supporting the identification of POPs that remain in the environment and to work with the European Commission to ensure the enforcement of the international Stockholm Convention related to POPs in the EU.

Ramboll’s work will concentrate on compiling chemical risk profiles based on toxicological and ecotoxicological data and the potential effects on human health and the environment. In addition, Ramboll will provide market analysis support by looking at potential alternatives for specific substances as well as for the evaluation of impacts that might arise from a use restriction.

Although all tasks are related to chemicals, they are expected to be diverse and will require expertise in multiple fields. Ramboll’s network of specialists covering a broad range of expertise and knowledge was recognised by ECHA as unique and an indispensable asset to the project.
