I’m lucky enough to have two areas of focus for my day to day job. Firstly, I’m responsible for the design and technical strategy for the Rambolls UK building services team. This involves looking at how we advance our technical offer, including the area of digital engineering.
My other focus is as a project design director on high profile sports and entertainment projects across the globe. I find that the two roles complement each other as delivering projects helps to inform practical technical advancements.
Thinking differently to put our clients ahead
I’m extremely enthusiastic and passionate about innovation and how it can drive better outcomes for society. These are exciting times for us to live in, as I believe our industry is about to undergo a revolution, that has the potential to be on the same scale as the industrial one.
As engineers we need to seize the opportunity to mould the future. By thinking differently, we can look to provide solutions to our clients that are tailored to their needs and add real value to them.
Using data in the digital age will free us up to innovate based on focused knowledge for clients. It is great to work for a business like Ramboll that is fully aligned with this vision, as too often engineers provide answers to problems rather than tailored solutions to a challenge.
These are a few of my favourite things…
I love my job and design. From a young age I always wanted to be an engineer and coming from a family of construction tradesmen, I was particularly fascinated about the built environment. I get excited when people and wider society experience the work we do.
It is for these reasons, I have spent the majority of my career working on projects the public can go to such as in the retail, leisure, sport and entertainment sector.
These projects touch the day to day lives of everyone. It is Ramboll being a foundation business and a sustainable society consultant that attracted me to join them. Again, it aligns with my beliefs that when we are the adapting the built environment we are doing it for the benefit of community and society as a whole.
My biggest surprise on a project?
That they just keep getting more interesting. I have been lucky enough to have worked on some amazing projects with creative and talented people. I always look to see how we evolve the design on each project. Even with technology and Virtual reality, there are still elements and areas within buildings where they work in a completely unimaginable way.
